Addressing BJP’s Vikas Parv rally at Davanagere in Karnataka on Sunday, Prime Narendra Modi has said he would never let the country walk on the wrong path.

He said, “They criticise me for not doing something big. Past Governments have done many big things, for big people and taken big advantages. Should I do that sin tooIJ I may do fewer things but I'll never take the country on the wrong path.”

In a veiled attack on the Opposition Congress party, the Prime Minister said people sitting in air-conditioned room in Delhi had no idea why people gathered in Davangere in huge numbers despite sweltering heat.

Modi, who spoke about the achievements of two years of NDA Government, said he had done what they could not do in sixty years. Continuing his attack, he said within a few months into power they (NDA Government) were asked to give audit of the work done by the Government. Citing reason for such demand, Modi said there were few people in country who talked about democracy but could not accept the mandate given by people.

“Those who sit in air-conditioned rooms in Delhi and give advice to the nation; they don’t know why so many people come in the scorching sun to bless us. This is no election, this is only love. I salute you that you have come to encourage us,” he added.

Highlighting the achievements of the NDA regime ever since it came to power since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said not only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but the entire nation wanted to be freed from the clutches of the Congress party.

“The last time when I came to Davangere, I had promised development. Now, Davangere is set to become a smart city. When people like you give me so much love and affection, there is no need for me to walk on the wrong path," he added.

Modi said it was for the first time that States had begun to feel the Centre was not only willing to listen to their problems but also ready to walk with them shoulder-to-shoulder.

Modi, in his address at a High School ground at Davanagere which has always played significant role in Karnataka politics, said, “Country is changing and you have come to accelerate it. I am very, very, very thankful to you for that. In our country if a Government spends more than 25 days in office, people start raising questions. It happened to me too. Not a week had gone, but different questions were raised to me. I have not even seen my office nor the Parliament. But they were asking my account.”

“There are some people who speak of democracy but they are not ready to accept a Government chosen by the people. They keep thinking where did he come from. I tell them, he has come from this land, among these people” he added.

Modi claimed his Government was always pro-farmer and addressed the distress faced by sugar cane farmers. While highlighting the achievemnt he also mentioned the rupee one insurance scheme which immensely benefits the farmers. “You don’t even get a cup of tea for Rs1 today, ...got it when I used to sell tea. Today, people can get life insurance schemes at Rupee 1,” he said. Prime Minister said his favorite Swachchh Bharat scheme had accepted widely in the country.

He said surveys had highlighted that biggest achievement of this Government was ‘Swachchh Bharat’ campaign which showed that it had gained momentum across the country. He also assured the farmers that his Government had taken a decision to make India “middlemen-free.”

“I was surprised that people in the country are burdened with many redundant laws, we removed over 1,200 such laws. I want to thank for coming here giving momentum to the development process in the country. Without your support, Modi would not have been able to perform,” the PM added.

“launching the Ujwal scheme in the state, Modi assured that Central Government would identify the families below poverty lines, and an lPG line would be provided to them in the name of the female family member.

Ahead of 2018 assembly polls this rally for the BJP at Davanagere is politically significant and has given impetus to consolidate their position under lingayat strongman BS Yeddyurappa. State BJP president Yeddyurappa, union ministers Anantha Kumar, Sadananda Gowda, Siddeshwar and host of other leaders were present.
