After HC subjudices order on face-to-face courses in varsity
Students of the Indira Gandhi National Open University protested outside Vice Chancellor Prof M Aslam’s office on Wednesday afternoon after the Delhi High Court put the regularisation of face-to-face courses in the university on subjudice on April 1. One of the security guards at the office was seriously injured during the agitation and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
According to Aslam, the students were instigated by Sri Angala Parmeswari Educational Trust (SAPET) and others who had enrolled themselves in the university’s face-to-face programmes.
“The students came in groups on Wednesday at about noon and attacked the officials. They damaged the VCO building and other property and also attacked the security guards who tried to prevent them from doing so,” he said in a statement.
A police officer said, “Hundreds of students reached the Vice Chancellor’s office wanting to meet him but were denied entry by the guards deployed there, following which a violent clash broke out. The students threw flower pots and thrashed the guards who in turn retaliated as well.”
He further added that a case of rioting against unknown persons has been registered at Neb Sarai Police Station. Police officials will examine the CCTV footages to ascertain the sequence of events.
