D Srinivas, one of the senior most leaders of the Congress in Telangana is all set to quit the party and join the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti. Srinivas, a former State Congress president who also served as Minister, met Telagnana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao amid the speculations that his disenchantment with the Congress leadership had reached a point of no return.
Srinivas met KCR at his camp office on Wednesday morning even as a group of Telangana Congress leaders made a vain attempt to persuade him against quitting the party. Telangana Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy, other senior leaders Bhatti Vikramarka, V Hanumantha Rao and Sridhar Babu went to the residence of Srinivas to placate him. But by that time Srinivas was already in a meeting with the Chief Minister, they returned disappointed.
According to the sources close to Srinivas, the senior leader was very unhappy and disappointed on being ignored and slighted by the party leadership since the last elections. He was specially dejected on not getting nomination for the legislative Council in the recent polls in which Congress party had won a seat. If Srinivas, a backward class leader, leaves the party, it will be a big setback for the Congress in Telangana where it was desperately trying to recover the lost ground.
Sources said that Srinivas had written a letter to the party president Sonia Gandhi recently voicing his grievances but he did not get any reply from her.
