As pressure is building on Governors who were appointed by the Congress regime to quit, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj on Tuesday refuted media reports that he had offered to quit, but said he will not resign till he completes his term. He told the media in Bangalore that he was appointed for five-year term and will complete that term.
He said, “President has appointed me for five year term and I will complete the tenure unless President advises otherwise.” His term ends in June and a section of the media had reported that Governor Bhardwaj had offered to resign as the BJP Government came to power at the Centre.
Bhardwaj had very controversial relations with Yeddyurappa-led first BJP Government in the South. In fact, he was also critical of some of the Ministers in Siddaram-aiah-led Congress Government.
He said it was his constitutional duty to stay in office till another Governor is appointed. However, he felt the new BJP Government in Delhi can advise the President on appointment of Governors.
