I was not consulted before decision: Capt Amarinder

Published on:

The Congress on Wednesday sought to dismiss reports about infighting within its Punjab unit having forced it to remove Captain Amarinder Singh as Pradesh Congress Committee president. But its claim was exposed as Singh complained he was not consulted before the decision and expressed his unhappiness over the choice of Pratap Singh Bajwa as his replacement.

“I was not consulted on the decision. Had I been consulted, I would have suggested a different name who could lead the party at this crucial time,” Singh said making his unhappiness very clear.

However, Congress spokesman Sandeep Dikshit claimed that following the defeat in the Assembly polls, Singh, who had led the party, had himself asked the high command to have a relook and make changes in the state including taking decision in terms of leadership of the PCC.

He denied Singh was replaced due to the open revolt by some MlAs after party’s defeat in assembly by-elections. Dikshit said the high command took a considered decision in its wisdom long back, but announcement has been made now.

Meanwhile, sources said that Singh’s removal is an indication that long overdue process of organisational reshuffle

has started and soon all the vacant posts will be filled be it in Bihar, Mumbai and other States.
