I am not a 'Rambo' Chief Minister: Nitish

In yet another veiled attack on his Gujarat counterpart, Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that he is not a “Rambo” Chief Minister who can rescue thousands of pilgrims, stranded in Uttarakhand through some incredible action.

Talking to newspersons after his weekly Janata Darbar at his official residence on Monday, Nitish Kumar said. “I am not a Rambo Chief Minister who will suddenly appear on the ground and will rescue pilgrims in no time”.

“I have no capability like a character Rambo possesses and I am also not very eager that I should get highlighted in the media through such acts,” he remarked while sharpening his diatribe against Narendra Modi,

Defending his Government’s performance in providing relief to the State’s pilgrims stranded at Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister said that the State Government took all steps which were possible for providing relief to the State’s pilgrims, stranded at various places in the Himalayan State.

Responding to a series of attacks by State BJP leaders on him and his Government during the last few days, Kumar said that BJP leaders are ‘publicity hungry’ and want their names to be highlighted in the media on a daily basis.

“I do not find it necessary to respond to each illogical argument being put forward by one BJP leader on another on a daily basis,” he stated adding that such statements also reflect the “baseless” politics, being persued by his opponents.

“I not only called Uttarakhand Chief Minister but my officers were also in regular touch with Uttarakhand’s officers to coordinate the rescue operation for the benefit of pilgrims hailing from the State,” the Chief Minister contended.

The State Government made a contribution of `5 crore to the relief fund for the help of stranded pilgrims and also established a relief camp in Uttarakhand.

“The problem with the certain people is that they have to speak anything and that too on a daily basis to remain in the news,” he commented while taking a dig at BJP leaders.

“We discharge our duties with full responsibility but God knows what type of mentality these people have,” he remarked.

Kumar reasoned that one should not do any politics on a natural disaster of such a huge proportion and the tragedy should not be reduced to the level of a debate, involving allegations and counter allegations from various sides.

He said that the JD (U) will call a meeting of its State party executive, district party presidents, MPs and MlAs in Patna on July 7 to decide its future course of action after the party parted its ways with the BJP.

Once again defending the JD (U)’s split from NDA, Chief Minister said that the people have given mandate to the NDA for the growth of the State and the mandate was not for some external factor, a remark made in reference to the State BJP’s staunch support for Narendra Modi.

“Whether BJP was not knowing what will happen if it takes certain steps and what will happen to the alliance,” he asked while holding BJP responsible for break up of the alliance.
