Hyderabad city police will exhume the body of a 17-year-old college student, Nabeel, after it was revealed that his death a week ago was not natural but he died in a street bout with a friend. A case of suspicious death was booked at the Mir Chowk police station in old city and police have detained seven youths after a sensational video clip of the fight came to light. During interrogation, one of the youths confessed the truth.
The group of youths used to regularly organise late night street bouts among friends with free-style boxing and the case would have gone out successfully to prove itself as a road rage incident, if not for the father of the victim. Mohammed Dastagir, who works as a driver in Dubai, had rushed back to city for the funeral of his son following his death on May 3. While the accused youths, who brought Nabeel’s body home, claimed he died in a motor cycle accident, Dastagir smelt something wrong and lodged a complaint with the police.
Subsequently, the video shot with a mobile phone camera came to light and went viral on social media as well as several TV channels showing disturbing shots of a youth raining blows to the head of Nabeel and latter collapsing. Having realised that Nabeel was injured seriously, his friends faked a road accident story and took him to hospital where he was declared dead. later they took his body home with the same story and the family performed his last rites. According to police sources, they will exhume the body on Monday in the presence of a magistrate for postmortem.
