The prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail project has run into some serious trouble. Even as the stand taken by the new State Government that the alignment of the project will have to be changed at some places to protect the heritage structures of the city had created a hurdle for the l&T company, a fresh controversy has hit the project with the contractors stopping the work on Monday.
The work at the Uppal-Mettuguda section of Corridor I has come to an abrupt halt on Monday as the contractors alleged that l&T had not made the payments for their work.
This section was being developed on a war footing as a show case for the entire project and l&T, the promoter of the project, wanted to soon under take a trial run on this section to throw it open to the people with in a few months.
While the corridor I from Nagole to the Hitec City is free from any problems, the other two corridors Jubilee Bus Stand (Secunderabad) to Falaknuma and Kukatpally to Dilsukhnagar have run in to problem.
While Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao have insisted on the floor of the state assembly that the project will have to under go some changes to save the heritage structures, the company was unwilling to accept the demands as it will not only delay the project but will also lead to cost over rurn.
