Hyderabad HC turns down plea for fresh post-mortem

Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday passed two different orders on the two alleged encounters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on April 7. On the death of five undertrial prisoners by police on the way from Warangal to Hyderabad, a division Bench of the High Court rejected the petition seeking re-post-mortem of the five bodies.

Mohammed Ahmad Mohiuddin, father of slain undertrial Viqaruddin and relatives of other deceased had demanded that the buried bodies should be exhumed and a second post-mortem should be conducted in view of the suspicious circumstances in which they were shot.

But, the Bench headed by Chief Justice Kalyan Jyotisen Gupta rejected it. On the other petition seeking that a murder case should be booked against the policemen involved in the incident, the court adjourned the further hearing to June 8.

On the encounter in Seshachalam forest of Chittoor district where 20 woodcutters were killed by police, the High Court took the Special Investigation Team under its supervision. Rejecting the demand for the judicial enquiry into the alleged fake encounter, the Andhra Pradesh Government had set up a SIT headed by Inspector General Ravishankar Ayyanar to probe the incident.

Other members of the SIT include Kurnool Range DIG Ramana Kumar, SP Pala Raju, West Godavari district ASP Chandrasekhar and others. Division Bench of the High Court said that the SIT should report to the court on the progress of the probe and complete the investigations in 60 days.

The Bench said that it will monitor the case. If anybody has any objection on any member of the SIT, they can file the affidavit, it said. The court expressed its dissatisfaction over the case diary submitted by police.
