Sensational heist of gold and diamond jewellery from a reputed showroom in Hyderabad in the wee hours of Saturday was handiwork of two youths from a village in Guntur district.

The mystery was cracked after one of the accused Kiran Kumar surrendered to the police and revealed the identity of his partner as Anand.

Interestingly Kiran spoke to a local news channel before surrendering to the police. He claimed that he had committed the crime only to create a sensation.

Hyderabad city Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told the reporters that a special team has been sent to Eepur village of Guntur district to nab Anand. "As he was on the run the police questioned his brother and other acquaintances," Sharma said. Gold and diamond jewellery was robbed form a Tanishq showroom in a high security area in Hyderabad on Saturday. The burglars had broken into the showroom by drilling a hole in the back wall of the building.

"To mislead the police Kiran had acted like a physically-challenged person during the robbery. The CCTV footage had shown one of the perpetrators of the crime to be a physically-challenged person but the investigators found it to be a part of game," the commissioner said.

Earlier the police had said that the robbers had taken away jewellery and gems worth `300 million but later it was revised to be around `59 million or `5.98 crore. Police have recovered part of the booty from the accused Kiran Kumar.

After entering the showroom through the drilled hole, the duo had switched off the lights so that the CCTV cameras don't record clear pictures of the incident. The crime was committed so meticulously by the duo that they sprinkled chilly powder on the scene of the crime so that the sniffer dog becomes unable to take scent of the two robbers.
