Hyderabad denizens to get metro next yr

Published on:

The dream of Hyderabad to see Metro train chugging from this year is unlikely to turn into reality.

Now the project is likely to become operational from 2017 and the probable date is Ugadi or Telugu New Year Day in March. The indication came from NVS Reddy, managing director HMR.

He said that though the 20 km stretch of the project at two different points was ready but it was neither economically viable nor likely to help in easing the traffic congestion.

Reddy was talking to the media after it was announced that the Hyderabad bicycling club's dedicated bicycle project was among one of the 20 best social projects chose at the recent UN Habitat Conference at Quito.

An 8 kms stretch is ready between Nagole and Mettuguda near Uppal and a 12 km stretch is completed between Miyapur and SR Nagar. Even safety certification process has also been completed.

Now the l&T Metro Rail is saying that the prestigious project has focussed its

attention on bringing the Miyapur-SR Nagar stretch on Corridor one up to Khairatabad and Mettuguda stretch up to Begumpet to make them viable and open them at the earliest.

NVS Reddy said that it was up to the concessionaire the l&T to take a final decision.
