Two uniformed cops on duty removed their caps and put them on the paper-prayer mats to prevent them from fluttering while members of Muslim community offer the Eid prayer. The scene captured by an onlooker on his mobile phone had gone viral on social media as the people hailed the two Hyderabad cops for their act.
Ever since it happened on the Eid al-Fitr on Monday, the video has been watched 50,000 times and nearly 3,500 people have commented.
The footage of the heart warming act, first released by an ordinary citizen was later forwarded from the official Facebook and Twitter handles of the Hyderabad city police.
It has made the two constables Venkatesh Naik and V Pratap Singh of Kalapathar Police station a hero. Deployed at the Mir Alam Eidgah for maintaining order the two were part of a posse which watched as hundreds of thousands of Muslims offered prayers.
“I noticed that because of strong wind the temporary prayer mats of card boards and paper were blowing away disturbing the worshippers I looked for something to use a weight. When I did not find anything I put my uniform cap. I didn’t want the person to put his head on the ground”, said constable Venkatesh Naik.
“I did my duty. As a policeman I should respect all faiths”, he said when his attention was drawn to the praise he earned from the people.
