Parliament remained paralysed for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday with several political parties raising a din over a host of issues and repeatedly storming into the Well disrupting proceedings. The BJP blamed the UPA government and its allies Samajwadi Party(SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) for this logjam.
The Government, however, managed to get the Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) and Demands for Grants(Railways) passed amidst pandemonium in the lok Sabha.
Criticising the government for repeated disruptions in Parliament, leaders of opposition in the lok Sabha said Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley respectively alleged that the SP and the BSP were disrupting the proceedings of Parliament "at the behest of the government." the BJP leaders also said the party will support the lokpal Bill recommended by the Select Committee but maintained the Government has no right to make any sort of changes to the Bill. "The House is being repeatedly disturbed by the SP and the BSP. These parties, in the last four and half years, have ensured the survival of the minority government," Swaraj told reporters after Parliament was adjourned.
She said the Government, which has the primary responsible for the smooth running of the House, is engineering the disruption of the proceedings. "Has any one heard ruling party members issuing no-confidence motionIJ They and their allies are disrupting the House, even after BJP assured support to government on running the Parliament. These things clearly show that this Government does not a want a debate in the House," said Swaraj.
Swaraj and Jaitley said there is no point of BJP supporting the no-confidence motion brought by Seemandhra MPs. "Our party is for creation of Telangana. Then what is the point of supporting the motion objecting it," they said.
Earlier, the agitating parties made their intentions clear in both the houses of Parliament as soon as they met for the day. Due to slogan shouting, the lok Sabha was adjourned twice and the Rajya Sabha thrice before the presiding officers adjourned the houses for the day.
In the lok Sabha, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy vociferously protested against the creation of Telangana and demanded a united Andhra Pradesh. Placard-carrying JD(U) members stormed into the Well seeking "apology" from Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for writing what they termed an "insulting" letter to Bihar government over Naxal issue.
BSP members came into the well of the house displaying newspaper reports to raise the issue of death of around 40 children in Muzaffarnagar relief camps in Uttar Pradesh. Resorting to similar action in the Rajya Sabha, they demanded dismissal of the SP-led Government in the state.
The Rajya Sabha also saw TDP members protesting against Telangana, while SP members demanded inclusion of 17 Backward Castes in Scheduled Caste category, DMK members protesting the arrest of fishermen in Sri lanka and TMC members held placards demanding that Delhi Police arrest Justice (retired) A K Ganguly.
