The Government’s bid to take up its Food Bill failed on Wednesday due to frequent adjournments over BJP-TMC spar over Gorkhaland and the ongoing TDP MPs’ protest against Andhra’s bifurcation. The House adjourned as soon as Food Minister KV Thomas resumed his introduction, which he could not finish on Tuesday.
Earlier, the House was adjourned when TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee sparred with BJP MPs after he had a heated argument with Jaswant Singh who had taken up the cause of Gorkhaland. later, on the insistence of leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj, Banerjee apologised to Singh but with a rider that his party would not tolerate the bifurcation of West Bengal.
Thereafter, the Food Minister resumed his speech. But Opposition members protested that the House was not in order due to the slogan raising of the four TDP MPs. Many MPs cutting across party lines said they could not hear anything due to slogans and audio problems in the sound system. The House was finally adjourned for the day after the Parliament passed resolution against Pakistan’s national assembly’s anti-India resolution.
