Mystery shrouds death of two youngsters whose bodies were found hanging from a mango tree in an orchard on the outskirts of Rampurwa village, lakhimpur Kheri, on Tuesday night.

The local police who rushed to the spot claimed that the couple had committed suicide. They identified the boy as 20-year-old Anup and the girl as Sarita, who is about 18-years-old. They both belong to the same village. The villagers who spotted the bodies and informed the local police suspected foul play and alleged that it could be a case of honour killing as family members of both the victims were not happy with their affair.

However, local police said to have recovered a suicide note and claimed that the victims had admitted in it that they were taking the extreme step after failing to enter into nuptial knot. The note was recovered from the boy’s pocket, Isanagar police station in-charge Ram Kumar Yadav, disclosed to the media.

According to the police, Anup and Sarita, belonging to different castes lived in neighbourhood and were in love with each other. Apparently the girl’s parents had fixed her marriage in Sitapur on June 5, prompting the couple to take this step, they added.
