Hizbul chief wants discussion on relevance of elections in J&K

Apparently baffled by the massive participation of people in the inaugural phase of the elections in Jammu & Kashmir, Hizbul Mujahideen chief commander Syed Salahuddin has urged the separatist leadership to ponder over relevance of elections to decide whether the participation in the elections was an issue or not.

The first phase of elections recorded more than 71 per cent polling in 15 constituencies of the State which went to polls on November 25.

Salahuddin, who is also the chairman of United Jehad Coucil, a Muzaffarabad-based grouping of 14 militant outfits, reiterated militants’ anti-election stance describing the participation in elections as “betrayal with the sacrifices and the resistance movement of Kashmiris”.

In an interview with a local news agency KNS, Salahuddin asked the separatist leaders to hold joint discussions on the basis of merit and an argument on the relevance of elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
