In a shocking tragedy, three elderly women were killed in the early hours of Wednesday, when they were knocked down by an unidentified four-wheeler on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan Road near Junnar in Pune district, in a hit-and-run incident.
The deceased women –Meera S Dhamale (60), her relative Kamala M Dhamale (65) and their friend Saguna B Gaykar (70)--were taking a morning walk, when the incident took place at around 5.30 am. There was not much of traffic on Ahmednagar-Kalyan Road at that time.
The incident was so gruesome that after they were run over, the bodies were flung to a distance and blood got splashed all across the road.
Meera Dhamale, who was among the killed, is the mother of Pune’s Zilla Parishad Member Mohit Dhamale.
Udaipur, a village that the deceased women hailed from, plunged into shock and grief following the incident. The villagers organised funeral for the three deceased later in the evening.
