Hemkund Sahib to be reopened on May 25

Published on:

Hemkund Sahib is slated to be reopened to the public on May 25 with the district administration busy in trying to ensure necessary facilities for the visitors here. The army has cleared the path to Hemkund which is still covered with snow. Due to a large block of snow breaking at Atlakoti, the snow had to be cut through for clearing the path to the shrine. Hardly five days are remaining for the start of the Hemkund Yatra and though the administration is said to be working to ensure proper facilities for the pilgrims, no arrangement has been made to provide drinking water at any of the spots on the Yatra route so far.  Work is underway to build a motor bridge to link Govindghat and Hemkund. The cutting work for the motor road from Govindghat to Pulna has been done but much work is yet to be done on this road so for the time being, the pilgrims will have to use the temporary bridge across the Alaknanda.
