Even as the Meteorological Center has forecast pre monsoon showers over Telangana to continue for another 48 hours keeping the temperature under check, Mehbubnagar, 120 km from here was lashed by one of the heaviest rainfalls in the recent memory.
Mehbubnagar city and surrounding areas received a record 12.2 cms of rains in mere one and a half hours leaving many low lying areas of the city under water.
The area was lashed by a thunder storm bringing down the trees, uprooting electrical poles, disrupting power supply and damaging a large number of houses. The thunder storm and the heavy rains derailed the daily life and normalcy was yet to return.
This has come at a time when Hyderabad had also received a record rainfall of 74.55 mm rains on May 6 breaking a decade old record of heavy rains at the peak of summer.
Officials of Meteorological Center in Hyderabad said that such a pre monsoon showers were normal and they were result of a upper trough prevailing from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra through Telangana and Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. “The pre mosoon rains will continue for another 48 hours before the trough moves in west-north west direction towards Marahtwada and Madhay Pradesh”, officials said.
Pre monsoon shower activity was so high this year that Hyderabad had received 113.5 mm rainfall this month so far against the monthly average of 31.7 mm, said private weather forecaster SkyMet
However the coming days were likely to be hot for Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana as the thunder showers will stop and temperature which had come down to 38 degrees will again start rising and may touch 41 degrees over the weekend.
This situation was likely to continue till the first week of June when Monsoon was likely to hit Telangana on June 5.
