Concerned with the tendency of banquet halls, hotels and farmhouse owners for not registering with the Department of Trade and Taxes, the Commissioner has asked them to comply with the laid down procedure or face penal action. Instructions have been issued to all the owners/lessees/custodians of the venue where functions are to be organised in the banquet halls, farm houses, marriage/ party halls, hotels, and open ground, where food and/or liquor items are to be supplied/provided and cost of booking exceeds Rsone lakh per function.
Commissioner (Trade and Taxes) Sanjiv Khirwar said that owners have been advised to get themselves enrolled by filling Form BE-1 and thereafter start submitting return in Form BE-2 online at least three days before first day of a month and for second fortnight by 12th of the month. Sources said that there is a general tradition that owners of banquet halls, hotels and farmhouses do not register with the department to avoid taxes. The department is incurring huge losses as owners avoid taxation on food item served to these functions.
