US astronaut Sunita Williams was accorded a warm welcome at her father’s ancestral village Jhulasan in Mehsana as she arrived here on a two-day visit.
Soon after arriving at the airport, Sunita regaled the people by greeting them in Gujarati ‘kem chhoIJ’ and said she was very happy to be in her father’s ancestral place.
She had visited Jhulasan village in 2007 too, a few months after her first space voyage.
Sunita visited the Dola Mata temple, the family deity, and offered her prayers there.
During her brief stay in Gujarat, the US astronaut would visit Junagadh, attend a polio programme and interact with students at a local college.
Before flying out to the USA on Saturday, Sunita Williams would be conferred the Honorary Doctorate degree by the Gujarat Technological University.
