In an interesting case, the Gujarat High Court set aside a complaint filed by a Vadodara-based businessman against the State Bank of India (SBI) chairman and managing director for not transferring 52 paise to his bank account. A petition was filed by SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya and managing director B Sriram in Justice JB Pardiwala’s court seeking to quash legal proceedings initiated by Vadodara district court for a pittance.
The Vadodara court had issued summons to them on a complaint filed by a businessman Vasudev Thakkar. According to Thakkar, he had deposited a cheque valuing Rs14,482.52 in his account in a branch of SBI. As per his complaint, Rs14,482 was credited to his account, while the remaining 52 paise were not credited. Subsequently, the Vadodara businessman lodged a complaint in a police station in Vadodara under Sections 124 and 188 of IPC.
