HC terminates membership of four JD(U) rebel MlAs

The Patna High Court on Tuesday gave a big jolt to four JD(U) rebel MlAs whose membership had been terminated by the Assembly Speaker and dashed their hopes of retaining their seats. Earlier in the first week of January s ingle bench of the high court had restored their membership setting aside the Speaker’s decision. But the JD(U) had challenged this order before a double Bench.

The JD(U) rebels, whose membership stands terminated are Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, Neeraj Kumar Bablu, Rahul Kumar and Ravindra Rai. Gyanu said they will move the Supreme Court with a writ petition challenging the verdict.

The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) Government has welcomed the court’s verdict. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shrawan Kumar  said, “The Court has proved a lie as a lie. This will further strengthen the parliamentary democracy.”

“We are least concerned over this order because the Assembly election is nearing and we will put our case in the peoples’ court,” Gyanu said.
