In yet another embarrassment for the Trinamool Government, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday asked the State Director General of Police to appear before it and explain why the Special Investigation Team constituted by the same court to investigate into the high-profile Parui murder case in Birbhum district had submitted the chargesheet before the district court without taking its prior approval.
Senior Trinamool leader and party’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal, who was named the number one accused in the FIR, has reportedly been dropped from the chargesheet.
Mandal was seen during last year rural polls publicly asking his partymen to torch the houses of the rebel Trinamool candidates and also bomb the police vehicles if they intervened. A day after his speech, father of a rebel candidate was shot dead by alleged Trinamool goons barely a few hundred metres from where the speech was made.
later the son of the deceased, also a Trinamool block president, Hriday Ghosh filed a writ petition in the High Court demanding CBI investigation into the case. Justice Dipankar Dutta then constituted the SIT headed by the DGP and asked it to submit the report before it. He also summoned the DGP in April but the State appealed before a Division Bench and got the order scrapped.
In the meanwhile, the case was transferred to the court of Justice Harish Tandon who on Tuesday expressed surprise at the defiance of the SIT which instead of taking approval of the High Court submitted the chargesheet in the district court last month. “We have supreme faith in the judiciary and hope we will get justice in the final run,” Hriday Ghosh, who recently joined the BJP, said.
