The Division Bench of Calcutta High Court on Friday extended the stay till August 14 on the execution of the Single Bench order directing an FIR ro be registered against Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal for spreading hate campaign by publicly threatening the CPI(M) cadre with rape and murder.
The Division Bench comprising Justices Girish Gupta and T Chakrbarty hearing the case said that the final order would be passed on August 14 till when it ordered a stay on the FIR to be filed against Pal.
In a bizarre turn of events, instead of prosecuting a hate-speecher who denigrated the status of women in public at a time when Bengal had climbed up the ladder to rank number one in cases of atrocities against women the State Government had preferred an appeal against the single Bench order to prosecute Pal. The Bench had also directed the case to be transferred to the CID which it ordered would investigate the matter under the monitoring of the court.
