HC reprimands Bengal Police again for deficient service

Once again the Bengal Police has been severely reprimanded by the Calcutta High Court for its deficient services. The Bench of Justice Nadira Pathedya on Monday found the police report in an abduction case full of flaws before severely reprimanding the police administration saying the reports should otherwise have been thrown into the Ganges.

Criticising the police for its callous approach in preparing the report the Judge said the police officers should have been thrown behind the bars for their lackadaisical approach in handling such cases before saying the report should otherwise have been thrown into the Ganges.

The police were investigating a case where a girl had been abducted by the miscreants in the Murshidabad district.

The Monday’s severe criticism of the police administration was not the first one in the recent times as other Judges have also pulled up the police for poor handling of cases.

Earlier both Justices Dipankar Dutta and Harish Tandon had pulled up the Police for their deficient service in the high-profile Anubrata

Mandal and Munirul Islam cases. Both the senior Trinamool Congress leaders were named in the FIRs in different murder cases but their names were dropped from the charge-sheets prepared by the police.

Islam a Trinamool Congress MlA and Mandal the district president of the party in Birbhum district have repeatedly been praised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is incidentally the Police Minister of the State.

Mandal who had in a public rally asked his party men to torch the houses of the rebel party men and bomb the police vehicles if they intervened Islam is charged with the murder of four CPI(M) cadres. Petitioners in both the cases appealed before the Court for CBI inquiry in the respective cases.

Justice Dutta who recently heard the high-profile Tapas Pal case also had pulled up the police for failing to file an FIR against the Trinamool MP for his rape-and-murder speech in public meetings before directing the men in uniform to file an FIR and transfer the case to the CID to be probed directly under the Court’s supervision. The case was since being heard in an appeal before a Division Bench.
