In what could be considered as a set back to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed the former’s petition against the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) probe on Aircel-Maxis scam. Justice B Rajendran, who dismissed the petition, observed that the Madras HC has no jurisdiction over the 2G and Aircel-Maxis related probes, as it was being monitored by Supreme Court. Karti who has been evading the summons issued by the ED, complained in his plea that the ED officers were trying to harass him. He approached the Court after ED conducted raids at his companies in December 2015 and unearthed massive investments in 14 countries. From the very first day of argument, the HC has been telling Karti that the apex court had banned other courts from entertaining petitions regarding 2G and Aircel-Maxis related probes. Chidambaram had at one point, submitted a suo moto affidavit in the HC alleging that the ED officers were trying to embarrass him and even claimed that he had been given a clean chit by the CBI.
