The Centre cleared a big package of road proposals for Haryana on Wednesday — a much needed relief for the road commuters across the State — who had been suffering due to unending traffic snarls, caused by broken roads and poor traffic management systems.
Ministry for Roadways Transport and Highways also enhanced the budget allocation for National Highways from the existing `44 crore to `110 crore, for maintenance and upkeep of the National Highways of Haryana.
The Centre cleared a proposal to build a six-lane flyover along the National Highway No 8 at Hero Honda Chowk on Delhi-Jaipur road. “This will cost about `100 crore and will be completed within 15 months. Till this flyover at Hero Honda Chowk is constructed, a convenience shall be provided to the people of Gurgaon on both sides of National Highway by means of providing traffic light system, opening of central verge, proper upkeep and up-gradation of service roads and construction of drains,” said Haryana Government in a statement.
Besides cracking the whip on officers in-charge of the three main Highways connecting Haryana with adjoining States — Delhi-Ambala- Punjab (NH-1), Delhi-Gurgaon-Jaipur (NH-8) and Delhi-Faridabad-Agra (NH-1), which carry very heavy traffic for very slow pace of work and poor maintenance, Fernandes also assured Hooda of fast tracking construction work of flyover at Bahalgarh Chowk and widening of bridge near village Rasoi on the Delhi -Panipat-Haryana Highway.
Fernandes also directed officers at National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to improve the maintenance level of roads immediately, apart from completing the projects on time.
