Happy over performance, BJP pats its back

The BJP on Saturday patted its back for its performance in the just concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament, wherein it blocked passage of Bills moved by the Government in haste and making a reluctant Prime Minister speak. The Opposition party also sought to share credit with the UPA for passage of pro-farmer and pro-poor Bills in both Houses of Parliament.

“The BJP looks upon this session with satisfaction. The Members of Parliament have worked overtime to highlight issues of public importance to both support and amend various Government proposals. The Party believes that it has played its role effectively. Its stand was motivated purely by a responsible Opposition and larger public interest,” leaders of Opposition Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley said.

Referring to Food Security, land Acquisition and Pension Bills, the duo claimed that the BJP played its role as an effective Opposition in the matter of legislation. Insisting that the BJP supported a large number of social welfare legislations like Street Vendors, Manual Scavenger Bills, it however was against hasty decisions on bills against higher accountability for those in politics and public life.

“The highlight of this session was repeated discussions on the Coal block allocation scam, wherein the Government of the day was seriously exposed with regard to the missing coal files,” they said. Jaitley claimed, “Even a reluctant Prime Minister was compelled to make a statement on the state of the economy and face grilling before the Parliament,” Jaitley said.

They alleged that the Government was facing huge anti-incumbency, non-performance, serious allegations of corruption and mismanagement of the economy. They also accused government of making abortive bid to cut short the size of the monsoon session.

They also alleged that Congress deliberately announced the decision to carve out a separate state of Telangana close to the Monsoon Session of Parliament hoping that the ensuing commotion would leave little time for debate on various issues in the House.

BJP, however, claimed the Government did not succeed in its intentions as the Opposition prevailed and ensured discussions on key issues like state of the economy, the falling Rupee, attack of Pakistan forces on Indian soldiers, Chinese incursions and Uttarakhand tragedy.
