Guv announces extension in cut-off dates for PG courses

Faced with an unprecedented situation arising out of the delay in the declaration of the Mumbai University’s examination results, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, together with the Maharashtra Government, on Friday announced extension of the cut-off dates for admission to various Post-Graduate courses, even as the Shiv Sena’s youth wing leader Aditya Thackeray said he will seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the matter.

On a day Aditya rooted for the resignation of State Education Minister Vinod Tawde whom he held squarely for the delay in the university results, Rao — who is the chancellor of various universities in Maharashtra — held a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Tawade and the Mumbai University officials and devised measures to overcome hardships caused to students because of the delay in the declaration of the varsity results.

The Mumbai University has so far missed three deadlines — of July 31 and August 5 and August 15 for announcement of the results of the exams held in April and May this year. Of the total 477 results, the Mumbai University has so far declared 354 results, while 123 remaining examination results are yet to be declared.

Among the measures devised to mitigate the situation arising out of the delay in the declaration of University results, the Governor and the Chief Minister decided to extend the dates for submission of mark sheets for admissions to various post-graduate courses anywhere from four days to 13 days.

It was also decided at the meeting that the steps be taken to notify to all universities in Maharashtra to admit students provisionally, based on a copy of online result.

Rao and Fadnavis also announced that in the event of students missing the admission deadlines be considered for admission in super-numerary seats for this year in consultation with concerned Apex Regulatory Body.

In another measure, it was also decided that the Academic Calendar be suitably revised taking into consideration the stipulation of 90 teaching days in a Semester as per the UGC Policy and to compensate the academic loss to the students.
