Two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation officials raided his house in Chennai’s Anna Nagar residential area, S George, former Commissioner of Police, said that he had no role n the multi-crore gutkha scam.
“I was not the Commissioner of Police when the pay-offs as alleged by the petitioner happened in Chennai. The petition states that huge amount of cash was handed over to the Commissioner of Police in three specific dates. But had been transferred out of the COP’s post much before that and was brought back only towards the end of 2016,” George told reporters at his house on Friday.
The former super cop of Chennai said reports about his name figured in the diary maintained by the gutkha manufacturer were wrong. “My name does not figure in the FIR filed by the CBI,” he said. When he was asked about a noting in the diary seized by the Income Tax Department raid from the residence of Madhava Rao that stated that `15 lakh was paid to a former police commissioner on Christmas Day, George said he does not know anything about it. “Someone might have collected that money by falsely stating that it was for me. I don’t know anything about it,” said the former police commissioner.
Meanwhile D Jayakumar, Tamil Nadu Minister for fisheries, who is also the spokesman of the Government, said that there was nothing strange about the CBI raids on the residences of Minister Vijaya Bhaskar, police chief T K Rajendran and former Minister Ramana.
