Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said that Gurugram must achieve the top position in national cleanliness rankings through effective administration and active public participation. Participating in the Mega Swachhata Abhiyan at Sohna Chowk and Sector 52, the Chief Minister launched the campaign under the theme Mera Gurugram — Swachh Gurugram. He was joined by MLAs Mukesh Sharma (Gurugram) and Tejpal Tanwar (Sohna), senior administrative officials, Swachhata Mitras and volunteers from Dera Sacha Sauda and other organisations.
Leading by example, CM Saini picked up the broom himself and appealed to citizens to adopt cleanliness as a way of life. “Cleanliness is the foundation of a healthy life. It is not just the responsibility of the Government but a collective duty of every citizen,” he said, urging people to keep their homes, streets and neighborhoods clean. The Chief Minister highlighted that development works in Gurugram will be expedited now that the monsoon season is over. As part of the 11-week special campaign, efforts will focus on the beautification and upgradation of all urban areas in the district.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission launched in 2014, Saini said the movement has now become a nationwide people’s campaign. He announced that Sewa Pakhwada will be celebrated in Haryana from September 17, Modi’s birthday, till October 2. The fortnight will include cleanliness drives, tree plantations, health camps and sports awareness programs. CM Saini also extended gratitude to religious and social organisations, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and trader bodies for their contribution to the campaign. “With public participation and Government support, Gurugram can truly become a clean and green city,” he added.
