After Aam Aadmi party (AAP) leader Savita Bhatti refused to contest from Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, the party has fielded actor Gul Panag, a parachute candidate on city’s lone lok Sabha seat.

AAPs senior leader Manish Sisodia on Thursday declared Gul as party candidate from Chandigarh amid vociferous protest from the local unit and chaotic scene. The moment her candidature was announced, a party worker Pawan Kumar, who was AAP’s applicant to contest parliamentary polls from the city, flashed a questionnaire seeking answers from Sisodia.

He alleged that the party has diverted from its main agenda and was fielding parachute candidates just like other political parties in the elections. After the party worker created ruckus, the press conference ended just as Gul Panag was speaking about her candidature.

Given the chaotic situation and media queries on parachute candidates, the party leaders also refrained from responding to most of the queries and even went onto blame the media for the chaos that was created by their own party worker.

The candidature of Gul Panag from Chandigarh has come as a surprise to the city AAP leaders. After Savita Bhatti withdrew her candidature, three applicants from the city were the front runners to get party’s ticket to contest elections. But, the party decided to field a well known face again and would be banking on glamorous cum social activist image of Gul Panag.
