In order to maintain law & order situation in the North Gujarat town Mahesana, the district administration has issued orders to ban assembly of four or more people and blocked use of cell phones and internet on Sunday.
The orders have come in wake of pro-quota agitation of Patel community.
Sources in the State administration said that the decision has been taken as the Patidar leaders were adamant on their demand for reservation to their community in educational institutions and Government jobs under OBC category.
last week there were incidents of violence and damaged to public properties. On Sunday, the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has announced a women’s rally in Mehsana city, which is the hub of the Patel community, despite the district administration having denied permission for it.
According official sources, the prohibitory orders would be in place between 8 am and 8 pm while elaborate security arrangements are being made right from Friday. Besides the rally, the Mamlatdar of Mehsna has already denied permission for a women’s conference by the PAAS.
On one hand some of the Patidar leaders are trying to solve the issue amicably by talking to the state government but on the other hand those who are against this move have started Patidar Ekta Yatra from Saurashtra region last week in order to continue momentum of the on-going agitation. In fact one of the Patidar leaders and close aide of jailed convener of PAAS lalit Vasoya had threatened that the agitation is presently going on according to Gandhian means, but if required they would not hesitate to adopt the path of Shahid Bhagat Singh.
