A Gujarat-based educational institution, Charotar Education Society (CES), has achieved a rare feat and added as many as eight Guinness World Records to its cap within a year.
Established by Vithalbhai Patel, the elder brother of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at central Gujarat town Anand known for white revolution through Amul Dairy, CES achieved this feat in centenary year of its establishment.
Talking to The Pioneer, the Chairman of CES Nirav Patel said that the management of the century old institution wanted to celebrate its centenary year in special manner and hence it was decided to organise 100 different events and in the process as many as eight world records registered in the Guinness Book.
Among the records made by CES includes making of world’s largest Kite mosaic of 1360.19 meters using more than 14000 kites. The idea was to promote ‘world peace’ said Patel, adding ,”It was one of the most difficult records as high velocity winds tested nerves of nearly 60 participants who arranged kites from 6.00 am in the morning to 9.00 pm late evening when they finally were able to place kites in order after at least 10 attempts. It required lot of patience.”
CES comprises of 12 schools and 13 colleges of various faculties spread across four different campuses in 40 acres. Situated primarily in agriculture belt, Charotar is known more for milk cooperative revolution rather than education.
The series of breaking world records began in July last year, with 1200 students receiving henna tattoos (Mehandi) simultaneously and concluded with two records in the process. Another record was set by 500 participants who signed each other’s T-shirts simultaneously. In another record as many as 118 participants set record in most arm-linked people to stand up simultaneously.
CES also found place in the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan for its effort to spread awareness about the need for action against environmental degradation. It organised a signature campaign event to promote Climate Action, life below Water and life on land. It got 14,120 signatures from individuals in Anand town in a giant placard covering about 350 meters of diameter CES ground.
The institute professors also designed special software for the records as organising the largest quiz competition with 3,832 participants, 60 questions completed in an hour and 25 minutes and Sudoku competition in which 3,824 participants compete simultaneously.
