Taking serious note of the rape incident in a radio cab in the National Capital, Gujarat Government has initiated a process to regulate radio taxis having national permit and operating in Gujarat.
On Wednesday Gujarat Transport Minister Vijay Rupani held a meeting with senior officials of the transport and police departments and discussed with them about the issue in detail. Rupani instructed officials to chalk out a system and form rules and regulation for national radio taxi operators functioning in Gujarat.
The State Government has also instructed the transport department to collect the data on radio taxies in Gujarat. “Currently we don’t have any data pertaining to radio taxis as the operators are having a national permit,” said a senior official in the State transport department.
Meanwhile talking to The Pioneer, the Transport Minister confirmed that he has asked the senior officials to ensure that no such incident (like the one in Delhi) occurs in Gujarat. He further said the State Government will take help of transport as well as law experts to formulate rules. Rupani said that as of now the State Government has not banned any company from operating in Gujarat
A senior official in the transport department said that a detailed study on functioning of radio taxis will be carried out soon. “We would also give emphasis on permanent Global Positioning System (GPS) in order to ensure safety of the passengers using radio taxis,” an official said.
