The Anandiben Patel Government is pushing hard to make Gujarat ‘Model State’ in cleanliness before Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary in 2019. Talking to village sarpanches through satellite technology ‘e-Gram’, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel appealed to take up the nationwide cleanliness campaign on mission mode and set precedent before entire country by making Gujarat the cleanest State in India.

Patel said that other States in India are already following Gujarat’s ‘Development Model’, in coming days the entire country would follow the State’s cleanliness model. She pointed out that making Gujarat a clean State, even before Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary could be the State’s best tribute to the great soul born in Gujarat.

“This goal is achievable as cleanliness is ingrained in the people of Gujarat. If every person in Gujarat will take cleanliness as his/her primary duty, in a short span of time the State would become clean,” said the CM. She emphasised on making cleanliness campaign as people’s movement and not to limit it to cleaning streets and public places but also free youth from smoking, chewing tobacco etc.

Patel admired the awareness of tribal women for constructing toilets in villages. She said that there shouldn’t be a single house in the State without toilet in next five years. She also appealed to the wealthy people to donate generously to ‘Chief Minister Cleanliness Fund’ to achieve the target.

Patel asked the people to take up massive tree plantation drive and eradication of social evils like smoking from daily life, alongside cleaning the streets and public places and building toilets.

Apart from village sarpanches, other office bearers and committee members across the State to listen the Chief Minister’s address which was delivered using Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG) satellite technology.
