The Gujarat High Court on Monday reserved its order on sedition charges against Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel.
The court reserved its order on an application by six Patel quota stir
leaders including Hardik seeking to quash the FIR against them by Ahmedabad Crime Branch. The FIR, filed on October 21, charges Patel leaders under various sections of IPC that includes waging war against the Government (section 121) as well as sedition -- bringing hatred, contempt or disaffection towards the Government (section 124).
Representing the State Government, Public prosecutor Mitesh Amin said that the FIR against Hardik and five other pro-quota Patel leaders -- Ketan Patel, Chirag Patel, Dinesh Patel, Alpesh Kathiriya and Amrish Patel, were based on over 200 call intercepted by the crime branch officials.
Amin further said that the conversations were “caustic” and the accused could be heard instigating their supporters to resort to violence by torching police chowkies, uproot railway tracks and even kill policemen.
