The Gujarat High Court on Monday adjourned the final hearing of a case filed by Zakia Jafri, widow of slain Congress leader Ahesan Jafri, challenging the clean chit given by Special Investigation Team (SIT) to Narendra Modi and others for their alleged role in 2002 Gujarat riots and upheld by a lower court. Now, the  hearing will be held on Tuesday August 4, 2015.
Zakia had approached Gujarat High Court against an order of a lower court that upheld the clean chit given by the Supreme Court appointed SIT to the then Chief Minister & current Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others for their alleged role in 2002 Gujarat riots. The appeal was filed by social activist Teesta Setalvad and Jafri. They had filed a complaint against the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi  and 62 others, including a few ministers and top police officials, in the Supreme Court, for being a party to what they called a wider conspiracy of riots.
Subsequently the apex court appointed Special Investigation Team to probe in to the complaint. On receiving report from the SIT, the Supreme Court
asked amicus curie Raju Ramchandran to verify it and basis Ramchandran's report, the Supreme Court in September, 2011, directed the Special Investigation Team to submit its final report and all the evidence to a local court, which was upheld by the lower court.
