Gujarat Govt to withdraw VAT from Army canteens

During his Independence Day speech from bordering Kutch district, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi blamed the Prime Minister for discouraging armed forces. On the same day, he went to boost morale of Border Security Force (BSF) after unfurling the Tricolor and announced the Gujarat Government’s decision to waive VAT on those commodities that are available at military canteens for jawans.

Against the backdrop of killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani Rangers in Jammu & Kashmir, Modi made it a point to visit the BSF jawans at the Dharamshala border post at the India-Pakistan border in Kutch. He also advised BSF jawans to save money to educate females in their family — be it a daughter or younger sister.

lashing out at the Central Government’s decision to withdraw the BSF’s right to retaliate at the India-Bangladesh Border, BJP’s probable prime ministerial candidate said that the security of the nation is under immense threat. “It is the right of every soldier to have the honour to fight for the country and demanded that this order preventing them to do so must be immediately withdrawn by the Centre,” he added.

Modi also dedicated a war memorial and a water supply pipeline for the Indian defence forces. Narmada water would flow in the 28 km long water pipeline built at a cost of Rs8.27 crore. It would permanently solve drinking water problems of Indian soldiers.
