In case of calling to any of Gujarat police station or on-duty cop, the first word one will hear from them would be ‘Jai Hind’ from the beginning of year 2016. ‘Jai Hind’ protocol has been adopted by Gujarat police force following the directive of DGP PC Thakur. As per the directive whenever the cops (on duty) pick their phones including official mobile phones they will have to initiate conversation with ‘Jai Hind’.
Apparently this has been the effect of recently held All India Conference of DGPs at Dhordo tent city in the white desert of Kutch this month. The Conference was attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the three-day long annual conference PM Modi had made this suggestion during a session on bridging the gap between police and citizens. As Gujarat DGP quick to respond on it, Gujarat has become first in the country to implement the suggestion given by the Prime Minister.
The senior police officials have also been asked to organise sessions at police stations across the state to inform their juniors on how to initiate conversation on telephones by saying ‘Jai Hind’. “Besides Jay Hind protocol, directive has been issued to hoist flag of Gujarat Police at all the police station in the state. Not only that we have to follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and norms for hoisting, upkeep and dignity of the Gujarat Police flag,” said an IPS official.
During the 50th annual conference of DGPs in Kutch PM Modi emphasised that by saying ‘Jay Hind’ by mentioning name while receiving call from a citizen, the cops in fact bridging the gap between police and people. He had also suggested not mentioning designation while receiving the call. The directive on initiating telephonic conversation with ‘Jay Hind’ was issued on December 28, said an official source, adding that in fact most of the policemen have already started saying Jai Hind after taking call without mentioning their designation.
