Almost over a month after worst-ever defeat in the lok Sabha polls in the State, Gujarat Congress came into introspection mode ahead of the Assembly’s Budget session.
In order to rejuvenate party in the State, the Gujarat Congress organised a two-day ‘Chintan Shibir’ on last week-end to analyze on why the party couldn’t win even a single seat in the recent lok Sabha elections.
However, the party came into conclusion after the mind-boggling meeting that the main reason for the debacle was polarisation of votes, especially in the urban areas. It also blamed on ‘right wing’ parties for conspiring against Gandhi-Nehru family and tarnishing its image, especially of Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Shibir was attended by senior leaders, party candidates for recently concluded lok Sabha elections as well as assembly by-polls and Gujarat Congress in-charge Gurudas Kamat.
Raising the issue of selection of candidate Kamat opined that local unit of the party should be given more autonomy to select candidate for elections ranging right from panchayat polls up to lok Sabha elections.
The congress leaders also came to the conclusion that there has been complete lack of co-ordination between elected party cadre and members of organisational wing.
