Gujarat CM accuses Congress of supporting Patel agitation

Published on:

Blaming the Opposition Congress party for supporting the pro-quota agitation initiated by Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) stealthily, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel claimed that this tactic would not affect Bharatiya Janata Party’s winning streak in the upcoming polls of local self Government bodies to be held in next month.

Speaking to a local TV channel, the Gujarat Chief Minister accused Siddharth Patel, former president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and son of former Gujarat Chief Minister Chimanbhai Patel that he is wholeheartedly supporting PAAS convener Hardik Patel to create anti-government sentiment through pro-quota stir.

Despite the agitation prospects there would be no effect on BJP’s prospects in the upcoming polls of six Municipal Corporations including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar as well as 230 taluka (tehsil) Panchayata, 56 municipalities and31 district panchayats.

“Though there have been several anti-government agitations in the state in the past, yet people had always supported the BJP because they knew that the party was for the development of everyone,” she said, adding that the Congress was making a hollow promise of 20 per cent reservation in jobs and education to economically weaker sections as the Opposition party know is it very well that it would never come to power in State or Centre and hence there would be no question of fulfilling the promise.
