The new sprawling headquarters of Gujarat BJP — ‘Shri Kamalam’ — spread across two acres of land and situated on the outskirts of Gandhinagar will be inaugurated on Monday in presence of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, former deputy Prime Minister lal Krishna Advani and other senior BJP leaders.
located on Ahmedabad- Gandhinagar highway, the new swanky three-storey headquarters is not only hi-tech but equipped with modern amenities like wi-fi, video conferencing, comfortable waiting lounge, media room, separate chambers for important State office-bearers including BJP leader in the Gujarat Assembly, electronic notice boards, digital sound systems etc.
A fully air-condition auditorium having capacity of 400 people is a part of the sprawling campus. Besides, there would be five conference halls with capacity ranging from 15 to 50 persons.
From Monday onwards, all the political activities of the saffron brigade will be ‘controlled’ from the new headquarters. On the first day itself, the BJP has convened a convention of BJP cadre at its new State office.
The convention will be attended by all the top State office-bearers, executive members of the State BJP, morcha and cell members, Members of Parliament elected from Gujarat, MlAs, district in-charge, office-bearers of all the district units and State-owned boards and corporations, municipality and municipal corporation and important functionaries of co-operative sector. Besides national organisational secretary Ramlal, national vice-president Smriti Irani and Gujarat State in-charge Om Mathur will also remain present.
“The current headquarters in the Khanpur area of Ahmedabad was started 30 years back in just two rooms. Gradually more adjoining spaces were purchased. As there is no allotted parking area, we are facing lots of problems in parking. The party needs to hire places for in-house training and workshops, arranging Press conferences and other important meetings. Even party leaders coming from other States as well as from within the Gujarat are many times stuck up in traffic jams,” said a senior Gujarat BJP leader.
Kamalam Trust — is the owner of the new Gujarat BJP headquarters — Shri Kamalam. Apart from the Gujarat Chief Minister, the State BJP president and other important Gujarat BJP leaders are trustees in the trust. It has applied to install solar panel on the roof top of the building to generate power.
