Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on overruled all speculations on early elections of Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday saying that the polls would take place on its schedule in December this year.

“Congress leaders are spreading rumours in order to keep their workers busy. There is no reason to hold assembly polls earlier,” said Gujarat Chief Minister on the side-lines of a function in Ahmedabad.

Over the period of around one year, post Patidar reservation stir headed by Hardik Patel coupled with flogging of Dalit youth in Saurashtra region, Gujarat Congress leaders were repeatedly quoted as saying that the BJP would prefer to contest assembly polls earlier. The congress leaders also suggested their party workers to remain prepared for early polls.

Apart from opposition Congress party, a large section of media too reported that Gujarat may witness early polls after Anandiben Patel’s exit as Gujarat Chief Minister. Even within the ruling party, many were murmuring on the early assembly polls. However, Rupani rejected all these speculations saying that the assembly polls would not only hold on its schedule but his party would win one more time with clear majority.

Apart from Patidar and Dalit issues, opposition Congress party which is out of power in the state since 1989 is upbeat on returning to power post demonetization move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
