The State Government claimed on Thursday that Gujarat is on top of the list of States in India to provide maximum number of people jobs. Gujarat’s chief secretary JN Singh said that in the past three years 13.45 lakh people have been provided direct employment, both in Government and private sectors. Though there is no scientific way to calculate indirect employment figures, it is generally believed that each private sector jobs generate two to 2.5 indirect employment opportunities, said Singh in a Press Conference.
Gujarat roughly has 6,00,000 youth listed on 48 employment exchanges, he said, adding that the state had done an extensive survey amongst 1.4 lakh of these listed candidates and found that only 34 per cent of them actually did not have a job. Rest had enlisted themselves either for underemployment or for want to better employment opportunities, he claimed.
The figures released by the State Government come in the wake of the agitating communities in Gujarat – Thakors, Patels and OBCs –threatening to hold an ‘Unemployment March’ on Friday. The march, which has been proposed to begin from Becharaji in North Gujarat, is slated to end in Gandhinagar. The march is being held under aegis of OBC Ekta Manch of Alpesh Thakor under the banner of Thakor-Kshtriya Sena.
