Various Muslim organisations in the State including Gujarat unit of All India Milli Council, All India Muslim, Majlise–e–Mushawarat, Jamat e Islami Hind and Jammat-e-Ulema-Hind have initiated campaign against the discussion on Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Talking to the Pioneer, Abdul Hafiz lakhani, General Secretary of All India Milli Council said that most of the Muslim organisations were against the UCC in the State and they have initiated awareness drive among members of Muslim community, mainly females.
“We are organising group meetings of Muslims in different cities of the State to make community members aware on various issues including triple Talaq and explaining them its relevance in holy Quran,” said lakhani, who stays in Ahmedabad.
According to him a signature campaign was also taken up by the minority organisations in order to create opinion against the possible move of UCC by the Central Government. The Indian Constitution had given right to Muslim to decide their ways of living and government had no right to change it, he said, adding, “The discussion on UCC has been calculatedly initiated in wake of upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections. By doing so, certain people would be benefitted by polarisation
of votes.”
On injustice of Muslim females through triple Tallakl, lakhani said that let the Muslim scholars and Muslim Personal law Board (AIMPlB) solved the issue. Blaming on Central government, he further said that the government was taking Hindutva agenda forward by raising such issues on public platform.
