In view of upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Gujarat Congress will kick-start a unique public outreach and fund raising exercise from October 2 – birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it would continue up to the nation’s first woman PM Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary, October 19.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has chalked out a plan to launch door to door ‘Jan Sampark Abhiyan’ to connect with voters spread across 50,000 booths in the State. The campaign would not limit to public outreach only, the Congress leadership would make it sure to run enrollment drive to broaden the base of party in Gujarat. Moreover, Congress workers would also collect donations from people to raise fund for the upcoming general elections.
According to GPCC president Amit Chavda the campaign would also help the party to update its data related to voters in view of upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With their (voters) financial contribution, they would have sense of ownership for the party, claimed Chavda. The party is targeting to collect Rs 25 crore from Gujarat, he added.
Chavda is first cousin of GPCC’s immediate past President Bharatsinh Solanki. After taking rein of Gujarat Congress from Solanki, he is in the process to restructure party. In next fortnight, the party would also form panes to decide candidates for 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
A senior Congress leader in the party said that very soon the party high command would announce in-charges for the all 26 Lok Sabha seats. In the 2014 parliamentary polls, Congress couldn’t open its account in Gujarat and lost all the seats to ruling BJP. However, the party leadership is hoping to win at least 10 Lok Sabha seats from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home-State based on the voting pattern of the 2017 Gujarat assembly polls.
