Keeping eyes on upcoming Assembly poll in later part of 2017, the Opposition party is all set to corner ruling BJP on the first day of Gujarat Assembly’s 40-day long Budget session beginning from Monday over the much talked about gangrape case in which some Kutch BJP leaders are allegedly involved.
Gujarat Congress leaders are already up in arms against the State administration and demanded probe in sexual exploitation of a married woman belonging to Nalia town of bordering Kutch district. In fact Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) had already announced to take out 550-km-long Nalia to Gandhinagar Beti Bachao (save daughter) yatra (march) which will start on Saturday and complete on Monday morning outside Gujarat secretariat.
The GPCC leaders have also threatened to give gherao program near the state assembly building in the state capital. Meanwhile, top state leaders, including GPCC president Bharatsinh Solanki, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, senior leader Siddharth Patel along with other leaders met Gujarat Governor OP Kohli on Friday and submitted memorandum to urge State Government to set up a probe into the incident by a sitting High Court judge. Solanki said that as the state government did not pay any attention on his party’s demand for probe by a sitting judge in the case, Congress MlAs would hold protest inside the house on the opening day.
The Gujarat Assembly’s Budget Session is beginning from February 20 and will end on March 31, 2017. With assembly polls are due in the second half of the year, this would be the last chance for the Opposition party to take on ruling BJP inside the house. Apart from Nalia sex scandal, the Congress party think tank has decided to raise various other issues including unemployment, Dalit flogging in Una, Patidar reservation, demonetisation to name few.
Congress has already taken the sex scandal issue on the street. Couple of days back congress workers, mostly females staged protest outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brother Pankaj Modi where their nonagenarian mother Hiraben is staying. On this act, Gujarat BJP spokesman Bharat Pandya commented that such protest disclosed pervert mentality of the opposition party as 95-year-old mother of PM Modi has nothing to do with political issues.
