Guj BJP to counter Cong propaganda on water woes

The Gujarat unit of the BJP has decided to launch an awareness campaign to counter the Opposition Congress propaganda in the State on the issue of water scarcity.

A meeting of the State BJP officer bearers, which met at Gandhinagar on Wednesday, described the ‘Jal Adhikar Yatra’ launched by the Congress as a ‘drama’ to deceive the people of the drought-stricken areas.

The Opposition Congress leaders on Wednesday flagged off a 10-day ‘Jal Adhikar Yatra’ from Dwarka in the western tip of the State, ostensibly to make the people aware about the ruling BJP’s alleged ‘anti-people’ policies which regulate water usage by the farmers.

The BJP said that the Congress is shedding ‘crocodile tears’ on the issue of water scarcity due to scanty rainfall during the monsoon last year.

The BJP leaders at the meeting, chaired by State president RC Faldu, observed that if the Congress leaders are so worried about the State’s water scarcity then they should urge their Central leaders to hurriedly sanction the erection of gates atop the Narmada Dam which is still in an unfinished state, currently at the height of 121 metres from mean sea level (MSl).

State BJP spokesman Vijay Rupani told newspersons that the State-level meeting has resolved to counter the Congress propaganda on the issue by properly informing the common people about the measures taken by the BJP Government to supply water to villagers through tankers and other means.

The BJP also worked out a strategy to wrest from the Congress two lok Sabha seats and four Assembly seats by-elections for which are likely to be announced any time now.

The Porbandar lok Sabha seat fell vacant as Congress MP Vithalbhai Radadia had resigned to contest the assembly election while Banaskantha’s Congress MP Mukesh Gadhvi died last month after a brief illness.

Radadia and his son Jayesh won two Assembly seats Dhoraji and Jetpur in Rajkot district on Congress tickets but later resigned upon joining the BJP.
